Whoa, summer is flying by. Somehow we are already at the end of swim team season. How did that happen!? Monday through Friday my girls roll out of bed for swim practice and I roll out of bed to take them. I’m going to be honest here, I don’t get up at the crack of dawn and accomplish a bunch of stuff before my kids get up. Nope – Morgan is pretty much my alarm clock. In any case, ‘sleeping in’ is 8am for me – and that very rarely happens. I like to be at the gym by 8:15 to get my spot. That’s a topic for another day 😉
Each day I make 3 round trips to the Lenexa community pool to drop off and pick up my girls. It would be way too convenient for them to swim at the same time!! The older kids swim 8-10am and the littles swim 9:45-11:15am. It was working out perfectly when Reece was in the Pre-Competitive group because the times coincided, but only 3 days into practice, they moved her up into the competitive group. So as to not stifle her swim career, I agreed to do this 3 trips to the pool driving madness. And both girls qualified for the All City meet, so YAY! I guess we’ve done something right.

Last night we attended the annual Lenexa Lazers end of season swim party. A time to potentially win an award, eat a plate of chips and brownies, drink sugary drinks, swim & dive off the diving board. This is really a horrible combination but I’ve yet to see a kid get sick.
As we settled in for the awards presentation, I had already given up hope on Morgan – the older kids rarely get awards and she already won when she was younger. I had sort of given up on Reece too because she got one last year (sorry girls, I was just trying to be realistic!!). When I heard one of the coaches describing this very small swimmer who always keeps going and going, doing everything she is told and trying her absolute best every single practice without fail, I definitely knew it had to be Reece. Congratulations for receiving the coaches award! You deserve it so much. It is no secret that when it comes to athletics, you work harder than most. Your determination is incredible. Now, if we could just put that determination into cleaning up your messes. Can we discuss that here in the near future!?

As I have told Morgan many times, you may not always be the fastest in the pool, but your technique and work ethic always show!
And already as I type this, Reece has her sights set on being a diver next summer. One thing at a time here, I can’t keep up! She couldn’t wait to get to this team party and do a back flip off the board. She did this over and over again for over an hour. Check it out!

Can’t wait to watch you girls at the All City Meet! SO PROUD OF BOTH OF YOU! Good Luck!
XOXO, MOM
