Say it isn’t so, Morgan has put her cello playing days behind her. That ‘beautiful’ black orchestra dress has been returned to the school, she’s burning those black shoes that felt like she was walking on nails, and we now own a $1000 cello. This is a very sad day. She’s been playing the cello since 5th grade and it has been a great run. She’s very talented even though she never gives herself enough credit. Music has been a part of her life since she was a toddler! I took her to Kindermusik classes every week!

This YouTube clip is the song they played at graduation at the end of her 1st grade year – a beautiful rendition of Hot Cross Buns on the Recorder…

I have loved every minute of watching her play. I have never missed a performance (except the Worlds of Fun music festival field trip in which they received all perfect scores!) I would literally have to be stranded on a desert island to miss one. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, I truly believe in the benefits of fine arts. It gives you character, makes you interesting, and makes your brain work in wonderful ways. Not just anyone can strike up a conversation or go into a job interview and say I’m on the honor roll, I volunteer in the community, I play golf, soccer, basketball, swim, and I know how to read music and play the cello. That’s just awesome! Thank you Morgan for making us so proud and entertaining us all these years!

At the final concert I arrived super early so I could get front row seats with my master seat saver by my side – Reece! She’s knows the drill – grab every stuffed animal in sight to put in the chairs to save for our family! I was going to have the most perfect view of Morgan until they moved her to an obscure location on the stage. It almost had us in tears we were so disappointed! The music was fantastic as always and even Aunt Jenn got tears in her eyes when they mentioned the seniors were performing their last songs as high school students and for Morgan who we would never see on that stage again. Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it!? It was, at the time!

I’m really hoping Reece will come through for me and play in the orchestra. She’s my only hope of getting to hear these wonderful concerts again!

Congratulations, Morgan, on a wonderful musical career. We couldn’t be more proud of you and love you to pieces! On to bigger and better things – like studying super hard for those AP classes and driving your own car 😉
XOXO
