Happy Grandparents Day!

The official commemorative day for Grandparents Day is the Sunday after Labor Day.  I’d like to think we celebrate grandparents every day!  We certainly rely on their help about that often it seems!  Just ask my mom and dad, whom I call frequently to get advice, help with shuttling kids or just keeping them up to date on our busy family life.  Soon they will stop answering my calls.  I can’t say that I blame them!

Each year, our elementary school invites grandparents to come to school, check out the classroom, eat lunch with their grandkids, and if you’re lucky, they will stay and hang out at recess for a little bit!  This may seem like a small deal, but I’m here to tell you, these kiddos absolutely love this day and look so forward to it!  Drew and Reece have had their food orders ready and counting down the days for this occasion!  Can’t you tell by the expressions…

Meet Drew…the WORLDS WORST PICTURE TAKER!!  It’s like you are literally torturing him!!  If I was that stinkin’ cute, I would be taking advantage of all picture taking opportunities!9.7.17 Drew 4GR Grandparents Lunch (1).jpgGrandma is the designated person to get the food for the kids – double cheeseburger plain from Freddy’s for Drew.  Can you believe this little guy eats double cheeseburgers?  A growth spurt has to be coming any minute!

Is it just me, or is that grandparent in the green shirt in the back sleeping?  Grandparents are tired…I get it.

P.S. Jake is wondering why no one is bringing him lunch this week…he’s feeling a little left out!  Sorry Jake, you are a big middle schooler now – no more grandparent lunch!  I promise I will drop off a yummy lunch for you sometime soon!

Homecoming?

I’m still scratching my head wondering how I arrived at this place in time.  I swear just a few years ago I was toting this cutie pie around…3.18.04 MorganConley.jpg

Now she has grown into this gorgeous young lady and headed to her High School homecoming dance with a date!  A date that is NOT a group of girlfriends….oh holy moly…are you serious?

After much anticipation, her friend from church, Alex, bravely rang our doorbell and asked Morgan to homecoming.  Brian was cool as a cucumber as I was scurrying around tidying up our house, biting my fingernails, pouring myself a glass of wine and hiding in the couch.  I’m pretty sure I will never make it through these high school years. For sure I will never have a pretty set of nails again!IMG_3585.JPGHe clearly did his research that Morgan loves dogs.  We were very impressed with his dog drawing.  shhhh…don’t tell him that we looked over the poster in extreme detail after he left…that’s just what we do…we can’t help it!IMG_9022

Here’s a video clip of the invitation.  The cutest!

These days, the boys have to come up with these creative ways of asking girls to the homecoming dance.  This is all new to me.  When I went, there was much less fuss involved!  Alex and Morgan do not attend the same school but met at church a few years ago – they’ve traveled on two mission trips together, attended church and youth group functions, and share a love of sports.  Other than the obvious height difference, we are certain that are a good match for this occasion.

Today we went dress shopping and this girl is NOT a shopper!  We took Nanny, her bestie, Emma, and Reece along for the experience.  I don’t recommend dress shopping at the mall on Labor Day weekend a couple weeks before homecoming!  It’s an absolute war zone.

Guess which one she chose…I don’t want to spoil the surprise!  Let’s just agree that she is stunning in everything she puts on and thankfully, I got out of that department store with only a $37 bill…score!

Check out Reece….she really loves the sparkles!!  She and Aunt Shauna would make a great pair…IMG_9028A little later we were so hungry….dress shopping really takes it out of you!  So we had dinner out and we let this little lady drive home.  WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE!? This is about all the change we can handle for now…

Morgan Rene, you are so very loved but we really miss you being our little baby girl!!122_2281.JPGYou’re the cutest!
